The first birthday is an important milestone for each child, and it deserves the big family to get together to celebrate. Throwing a party for child’s first birthday would always be a good idea, but it is not going to be easy if you had never been to similar parties before. Don’t worry if you’re new to planning for a party, as I am here to help you out.
First, it is nice to choose a theme based on what your child likes most. It can be a favorite character, or a favorite color. You can then start planning party games and activities. After that, you may want to send invitations to your guests at least 2-3 weeks in advance, so they will have enough time to RSVP. Once you confirmed the party size, it’s time to order decorations, food & tableware, and game props.
When preparing for a party, it is a good idea to plan a number of games and activities to keep everyone entertained. Below are some great games and activities I put together to make your party a special occasion that everyone will remember for many years to come.
Guess the Baby Photo
When you send the party invitations, you can also ask each adult or their older children to bring 2 same size photos (one childhood photo and one current photo) of themselves when they attend the party. Write down the name on the back of each photo so at least you know the corresponding relationships. When these are done, arrange all the childhood photos in a line and number them (1,2,3,4…), and then letter all the current photos (A, B, C…Z). When guests are ready to play this game, everyone can pick up a piece of paper and write down the corresponding number & letter. Who gets the most correct will win.
Pin the Nose on the Clown
This game just like “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” except that players will try to pin the nose on the clown instead. It is suitable for all age groups especially for kids. The player who places the nose closest to the right place will be the winner. You can also find one of adults volunteer playing the clown, and children will giggle and laugh when playing this game. You can buy clown nose props in advance, and it contains 12 stickers and 1 blind fold.
Catch the Bubble
Bubbles are a great way to entertain kids and there’re so many different ways to play with bubbles. The simplest bubble game is blowing lots of bubbles and let the kids enjoy catching them. I strongly recommend the Gymboree Bubble Solution which is long lasting and amazing, and children like it very much.
Prepare a small box or a special keepsake box, and have each guest write a note to your baby and put all of them into the box to be sealed. It can be reopened on the child’s 18th birthday.
